Each Neotenic shade is shaped entirely by hand by Original BTC's glassblowers in their Oxfordshire glassworks, England. A lot of time went into perfecting its proportions and signature swirl. Once the raw batch is melted and gathered on a blowpipe as molten glass, the glassblower forms a bubble, coats it in opal glass and introduces colour using coloured frit before stretching and rolling the hot glass back on itself, creating marble-like ripples and veins. A final gather is blown into a custom three-part graphite mould to achieve the bullnose form, then released, annealed slowly overnight, and cold worked by hand. The rim is cut, sanded, bevelled and polished, holes are drilled for fittings, and the shade is ready for assembly.
